Custom GPT retirement and migration FAQ

Official OpenAI logo (Help Center)

OpenAI plans to retire custom GPTs in ChatGPT and is asking creators to turn them into plugins. The standard retirement date is December 11, 2026; FedRAMP workspaces and Enterprise workspaces with an approved deferral have until February 11, 2027. In affected Enterprise workspaces (FedRAMP excluded), new GPT creation ended on October 26, 2026, and personal Free, Go, Plus and Pro accounts can no longer create or publish new GPTs. To migrate, creators go to My GPTs and choose “Migrate to plugin”: instructions become a skill, knowledge files are copied and connected apps carry over, but custom actions and the selected model do not. The original GPT stays usable until retirement (read-only once migrated), and existing conversations remain accessible.
